Business

There is no 'right' and 'wrong' career path. The flexibility to move both vertically and horizontally within a company and an industry is what can set you apart from your peers. The business panel and roundtables will feature individuals across many industries - consulting, finance, marketing, data analytics, and other disciplines - and dive into how exactly one navigates the business world. From these individuals, you will grow to understand the applicability and value a career in business can have across many different sectors.

Mike Harriett, AB'08

CFO / COO, Dorsey Asset Management

Mr. Harriett graduated from the College in 2008 with a degree in Economics. While in the College, Mr. Harriett played for the College's football team and was Captain of the team during his senior year. After college, Mr. Harriett joined Morgan Stanley. In 2009 Morgan Stanley wanted Mr. Harriett to move to New York, but instead he chose to stay in Chicago to remain close to his family. He then joined Sanborn Kilcollin Partners, where he served as the Director of Operations until the end of 2014 when the two partners who founded the firm decided to retire. He then joined Citadel Securities for a brief period before leaving to become CFO/COO of Dorsey Asset Management. He is married and lives in Chicago with his wife Jen who is a 6th grade teacher. Luis Lara, AB'08

Digital Marketing Manager

Luis Lara graduated from the College in 2008 with a degree in History. Upon graduating he worked for the Marcus Evans Group in the Latin American Division until June 2014. He then worked as a Digital Project Manager for BMO Harris Bank until May of 2016. Luis currently works at The Warranty Group in Chicago, IL as a Digital Marketing Manager. (Table 11)

Anne Libby, AB'83, MBA Wharton'95

Founder and Owner, Anne Libby Consulting and Coaching

Ms. Libby graduated from the College in 1983 with a degree in Behavioral Science. While in the College, she was involved in Women's Track and Field and the Major Activities Board. After graduating, she made her way to financial services and earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. She's currently a coach and consultant, and works with leaders in closely-held and early stage organizations, mostly in the NYC tech community. (Table 12)

Carla Taylor, AB'92, MBA'93

Senior Director, Fitch Ratings

Carla Norfleet Taylor, CFA is a senior director in Fitch Ratings' corporate finance group. Here responsibilities include corporate credit analysis for high-yield and investment grade companies in the restaurant, grocery retail, and food industries. In addition to publishing issuer-specific research and topical commentaries, Carla leads and contributes to cross-sectional and global research publications with past topics including activist investors, the affordable care act, and global protein. Prior to joining Fitch in 2004, Carla was Vice President of Equity Research for The Kenwood Group and Second Vice President at The Northern Trust Corporation where she worked as an International Equity Analyst and Investment Product Manager. Carla earned a BA in Professional Options (Economics) in 1992 and a MBA in Finance in 1993 from the University. She earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2000 and is a member of the CFA Society of Chicago. (Table 8)
